With the publication of all 58 Eurocodes Parts in 2007 a major milestone in the European standardisation for construction has been achieved. Now the Eurocodes are in the key stage of national implementation by the Member States.
Objectives
The principal objectives of the workshop were:
- Transfer of knowledge and information to resentatives of key organisations/institutions, industry and technical associations involved in training on the Eurocodes in the Member States;
- Enhancing the training potential of the Member States by provision of state-of-the-art training material and background information;
- Contribution to the consistent and timely implementation of the Eurocodes;
- Facilitating exchange of news, networking and cooperation.
Common standards to improve competitiveness of construction industry

Towards the Eurocodes era
The Eurocodes are built on best European practice, expertise and research achievements. They provide for highest technical quality of construction design. Furthermore, the Eurocodes will create job opportunities by giving engineers, contractors, designers and product manufacturers the freedom to provide services in any Member State throughout Europe. The competition in cross-border provision of construction products and services will contribute to lower costs, raising quality and favouring technological innovation.
The Workshop "Eurocodes: Background and applications" marks the achievement of a key milestone in the European standardisation for construction: all Eurocodes parts being published by CEN and ready for implementation and use in the Member States.
It is also a major European training event on the Eurocodes. The workshop is organized by the European Commission with the support of CEN and Member States. It aims to transfer knowledge and state-of-the-art training material and information from the Eurocodes writers to representatives of key institutions, Industry and technical associations involved in training on the Eurocodes in Member States.
