The Eurocodes worldwide: towards implementation in ASEAN Member States

A dynamic and interactive technical workshop exploring the challenges, benefits, opportunities, and strategies for implementation of the Eurocodes in the ASEAN MS

The online technical workshop on 'Implementation of the Eurocodes in ASEAN Member States' (24 April 2025) provided valuable insights into the implementation and use of the Eurocodes in ASEAN Member States (AMS). It addressed the challenges, benefits, opportunities, and strategies for facilitating the potential adoption and implementation of the Eurocodes, considering the unique regulatory and technical standardisation frameworks and needs of the AMS.

Experts from Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore shared their experiences, lessons learned, and best practices, fostering a collaborative environment and enhancing capacities to support the successful implementation of the Eurocodes in the ASEAN region. More than 80 participants from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam, as well as from around the world, attended the online workshop. This event engaged a diverse range of target groups, including structural design engineers, government agencies, academia, and industry, opening up possibilities for regional collaboration and sharing experience.

The workshop was part of the 2024-25 Work Plan of the E-READI Eurocodes Dialogue, building on the general interest in the topic, direct feedback from regional stakeholders, and outcomes from the Second regional workshop on the Eurocodes Dialogue, (Singapore, October 2023). In particular, this workshop belongs to a series of webinars proposed by ASEAN experts during the May 2024 study visit to the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy
