A new Eurocode on structural glass will be developed following a step-by-step procedure designed to ensure effective consultation and technical governance.
A JRC scientific and technical report was developed and converted first into a Technical Specification (prCEN/TS 19100). Then it will be converted into an EN Eurocode on structural glass. The following topics were addressed:
- properties of material and products;
- application fields, respective failure potential and failure consequences;
- safety and reliability approaches;
- principles of design;
- design and calculation rules for primary members, joints, connections and supports.
As for the existing Eurocodes, sustainability concepts will be incorporated. A clear language and structure will be used and background documents with the justification of recommendations will be produced. Where relevant, links with national, European and international standards will be assessed.
