Eurocode 5 is the new standard for design of timber structures. It covers many forms of timber design and provides the most comprehensive and up to date set of design rules currently available.
Eurocode 5 is a robust and rigorous design code, but takes a less prescriptive approach to design compared to BS5268. As such it offers opportunities in design but will require clear understanding and careful application. It is expected that the new design code will enhance timber design in the UK especially for engineers as yet unfamiliar with timber as a structural building material.
Is it for me?
If you are an experienced designer, familiar with design to current British Standards and looking for transition training covering the key changes between the BS codes and Eurocodes, then the 1 day Essentials course will meet your requirements.
Presenter: The tutor is a chartered engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, and Institute of Wood Science. He is former International Director and Director of Timber Technology and Construction Centre of BRE. He has extensive experience in both the timber technology and construction fields nationally and internationally with consultants, contractors, universities and trade bodies. He has published widely and represented the Building Control Division of CLG on national and international code and standard committees.
