International Symposium on Durrës Earthquakes and Eurocodes – ISDEE

ISDEE is motivated by the recent events in Albania. The first major event was the ‪9/21 earthquake, with Mw 5.6, which caused only a few damages on construction works in the Durrës-Tirana region. The second event, ‪the 11/26 earthquake with 6.4 Mw, was severe and caused 51 fatalities and heavy damages to some types of construction works near the epicenter. In this context, studying the consequences of these earthquakes and learning from them is the main objective of the symposium.‬

New structures, implementing Eurocode principles suffered only minor damages in the areas affected by the Durrës earthquakes. Since Albania is close to formally adopting the Eurocodes, all research activities related to them are appreciated and welcome. The symposium will provide a venue for sharing ideas and experiences on earthquakes and design codes, focusing on Durrës earthquakes.

This symposium is organized by the Civil Engineering Faculty, Polytechnic University of Tirana. The official language of the symposium is English.

Note: The ISDEE Organizing Committee, following consultations with key partners, stakeholders and other organizing institutions, has decided to transform the ISDEE into an online event, to be held on September 21st to 22nd, 2020. These dates coincide with the anniversary of the first Durrës 9/21 earthquake of 2019.
