Evening course 2010 - "The Eurocodes" covering Eurocodes EC0 to EC7

Engineers Ireland West are holding their annual CPD Evening Course over 5 Tuesday evenings from 2nd February 2010 to 2nd March 2010, from 6pm to 8pm each evening. This year's course is titled ‘The Eurocodes'. The venue the course is the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, Dublin Road, Galway.

Under the Public Procurement Directive, it is mandatory that Member States accept designs to the EN Eurocodes. The EN Eurocodes will become the standard technical specification for all public works contracts. If proposing an alternative design one must demonstrate that is technically equivalent to an EN Eurocode solution.

National implementation of the Eurocodes by all Member States is to be completed at the latest by March 2010, when contradictory National Standards are to be withdrawn. There are 10 Eurocodes of relevance to structural design for constructions works, covering 10 separate design areas. The first two areas (basis of design and actions or loading) are common to all designs, the next six are material specific and the two remaining codes cover geotechnical and seismic aspects.

This CPD course covers the first eight codes (i.e Eurocodes 0 to 7), and will provide an overview of each of these standards. The course will be of particular benefit to anyone involved in structural design, but may also be of interest to anyone in the engineering field.
