Design of Liquid Retaining Structures to Eurocode 2

The design of liquid retaining concrete tanks requires an appreciation of the structural behaviour of walls and slabs together with a sound knowledge as to how cracking due thermal, shrinkage, flexural and tensile effects can be controlled.

The new design codes and guidance (Eurocode 2 and CIRIA C660) place increased demands on the designer as they introduce new concepts in the way these structures are designed and reinforced.

The structural analysis of the tanks has evolved enormously in the last 5 years and the course will demonstrate the commonly used methods.

This one day course has been specifically designed to give you the ability to prepare a straightforward tank design that will satisfy the requirements of EC2 and CIRIA C660.

It is ideal for graduate engineers who have already gained some reinforced concrete design skills and more experienced engineers who are making the change from BS8007 to EC2.

During the course you will learn about the key aspects of Tank Design: Structural Analysis - Learn how to design a tank from the use of simple charts and tables to grillage and finite element computer analysis; Thermal & Shrinkage - Gain an understanding of how to use CIRIA C660 and how these factors control the design; Flexural & Tensile Crack Control - Learn how to use charts and a spreadsheet to calculate the reinforcement required to control these effects.
