Eurocode 5: Timber Design

Eurocode 5 offers opportunities to structural engineers designing in timber. The existing code, BS 5268, is a permissible stress code. The new Eurocode is a Limit State code. In separating the serviceability limit state from the ultimate limit state it presents design in a format consistent with the existing steel and concrete codes but it needs care in use. To ensure a safe design, the code must be applied with care in using the correct load, material and modification factors.

This course will introduce timber engineering and explain the significant parameters in the Eurocode. It will show how to design to Eurocode using the recently published TRADA / IStructE Manual to EC5.
