International course earthquake engineering: Eurocode 8

The Civil Engineering profession is becoming more global in outlook and designers may be required to design structures to be built in any part of the world. This means that even in countries where earthquakes are not one of the excitations that structures have to be designed to resist, engineers need to be aware of the concepts of seismic design. Also in the southern part of The Netherlands moderate earthquakes may happen and for important buildings as well as bridges a check for adequate earthquake design would be desirable. After the introduction of Eurocode 8, this may even become mandatory for certain categories of structures.
