The JRC Technical Report "Guidance on establishing European rules for the design of reclaimed steel components for reuse" presents the outcome of the work conducted by the Ad Hoc Group (AHG) "Design of reclaimed steel components for reuse" established within CEN/TC 250/SC 3 "Eurocode 3: Design of steel structures".

The document is intended as a background report, as it reflects the current state of knowledge and discussion at the time of writing, as well as it gathers and discusses relevant background information, interrelated topics such as the assessment of existing steel structures, initial concepts and proposals for reuse, and references to established standards and guidelines.

The aim of the report is to support future standardization activities by identifying important issues and knowledge gaps that should be addressed when designing reclaimed steel components for reuse, outlining potential directions for future standardization, and laying the foundation for a corresponding future Technical Specification (TS) and, ultimately, a new part of EN 1993.

This report provides valuable insights for all stakeholders involved in the topics of circularity and sustainability in steel construction, and offers a solid foundation for the development of safe and practical design guidance for reuse.
